Monteverde: How to spend 2 days in the Cloud Forest of Costa Rica

Is Monteverde worth visiting? If you love nature, mountains, wildlife, and greenery, then the answer is yes, this is the place for you! During our 2 week visit to Costa Rica, we were able to experience the city life, the coast chill vibes, and the energy of the mountains. We spent 2 days in the mountain area of Monteverde and it quickly became one of our favorite spots in this Central American country. Here are our top recommendations on how to spend 2 days in the Cloud Forest of Costa Rica.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve

Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve (Entrance $25.00)- The Cloud Forest or Bosque Nuboso in Spanish, is a magical place. When you walk its trails you would feel like you are in an enchanted forest. Here you can experience birdlife, plants, and trees. You can opt to hike the trails by yourself, but our recommendation is to do a guided hike. The Forest Preserve guides have great knowledge about the ecosystem, flora, and fauna that make up this amazing forest. The guided tour costs $45.00 and it includes the entrance fee and guided hike. Click here for more information about the Cloud Forest and to see current rates and restrictions.

Hummingbird Garden

Hummingbird Garden- My husband loves hummingbirds, so when we learned that there is a Hummingbird Garden with hundreds of these beautiful birds flying around we had to make a stop. When you go into the garden you will be greeted by dozens of these tiny creatures and will be amazed at their beauty. We visited the Garden at Selvatura Park but there are other gardens available in the area. Link to Selvatura’s website: www.selvatura.com with their rates and packages.

Suspension Bridges

Walking the Suspension Bridges

Suspension Bridges- The highlight of our stay in Monteverde was visiting Selvatura Park for their Suspension Bridges ($39.00 Usd)  This activity is a must while in Monteverde. You get to explore eight bridges and will feel like you are walking in the clouds. While you are crossing the bridges you will be walking among treetops and clouds. Truly a unique experience. Zip-lining

Zip-Lining- At Selvatura Park, we also did ZipLining. If you are an adrenaline junky this is the activity for you, again you will be zipping through a forest like no other.

Visit a restaurant with a tree in the middle

Restaurante Tree House – This is a really cool restaurant and coffee shop located in downtown Santa Elena and it is known for boasting a  big tree in the middle. It is located on one of the main streets with lots of other small shops around. http://www.treehouse.cr/?LAN=EN

Ficus La Raiz

Climb a Ficus Root Bridge- If you have an hour to spare make a stop at this cool bridge. You can climb to the top and cross it, the hike there is short but downhill and can be muddy if it has rained so be sure to wear appropriate shoes. It is a little hidden but you can find the address on google maps by writing Ficus La Raiz on Google Maps.

And there you have it, our TOP 6 recommendations on how to spend 2 days in the Cloud Forest Monteverde. Have you ever been? What are you most looking forward to experiencing?
